Art Biennale 1+1

Art in the green maze

Every two years, the Kirchberg Fund and Casino Luxembourg invite artists to enhance the green space.

In summer 2016, the Kirchberg Fund unveiled the work Dendrite by the Canadian artist Michel De Broin in the Maze in the Parc Central on the Kirchberg Plateau. Since then, this sculpture – which is an elevated viewing point, visible from some way off – has been provoking curiosity. It reveals to walkers the green maze as yet still largely unfamiliar to them, and invites them to a fuller exploration of the Parc Central in general. In a continuation of the original initiative, the Kirchberg Fund and Casino Luxembourg have launched 1+1, an arts project staged every two years, aimed at realizing a temporary artwork in the Maze.

For the first edition of 1+1, the entry Recto-Verso by the two Luxembourg artists Charles Wennig & Laurent Daubach was chosen in 2017. In 2019, for the second edition of this event, the Fund and Casino Luxembourg chose Slow Teleport, by the artists Alex Schweder and Ward Shelley. In 2021, they invited Benedetto Bufalino, who is known for playing with the architecture of given places and for proposing a playful rereading of reality with his quirky installations. The third edition of 1+1 will take place from June 26 to September 5.
