Inauguration of a photovoltaic installation and creation of the first internal energy sharing group of the Fonds Kirchberg

On Friday 5 December, the Fonds Kirchberg inaugurated the new photovoltaic installation on the roof of the Brigade building, in the presence of Ms Yuriko Backes, Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Ms Sylvie Siebenborn, Chair of the Fonds Kirchberg, and Mr Marc Widong, Director. This project is part of the Fonds's strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and experiment with new models of collective self-consumption.

Commissioned in November 2025, the installation comprises 400 photovoltaic panels with a total power output of 175 kWp, covering an area of 800 m².

The electricity produced will not only power the Brigade's building at 120 Rue de Grünewald, but also the Fonds's administrative building on Rue Erasme, thanks to the creation of the Fund's first internal energy sharing group.

The production will cover:

  • 95% of the Brigade building's daily energy needs;
  • 65% of the administrative building's consumption.

Over 30 years, this installation will prevent 767 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, or 28.8 tonnes per year.

The project, with a total cost of €290,000 including VAT, was carried out in collaboration with Klima-Agence, CREOS, ENOVOS, EAL, the ENTEC design office and the SECO inspection office.

Towards more sustainable and self-sufficient public buildings

Sylvie Siebenborn, Chair of the Fonds Kirchberg, emphasises that this installation is ‘an important step, enabling us to experiment with collective self-consumption with a view to future deployment on a neighbourhood scale, particularly in Kuebebierg’.

Marc Widong, Director of the Fonds Kirchberg, adds: "This project contributes to the decarbonisation of our buildings and represents a valuable learning opportunity for our teams. It will enable us to develop larger-scale energy clusters in the future. "

This initiative supports the national objectives of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNEC) and those of the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe climate neutral by 2050.

The Fonds Kirchberg Brigade: a key player in maintaining the plateau

Comprising 13 agents, the Brigade maintains the public spaces of the Kirchberg Plateau – roads, cycle paths, parks, green spaces and playgrounds – covering an area of 305 hectares.

It has workshops, storage areas, administrative spaces and a salt reserve, which it shares with the intervention team from the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées (Bridges and Roads Administration), with whom it works closely.
