Topping-out ceremony for Kiem 2050
On Monday, 5 October 2026, the topping-out ceremony for the Kiem 2050 residences took place in Kirchberg in the presence of the Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes. This milestone marks the completion of the structural works and provides an opportunity to thank all the teams whose expertise and dedication have contributed to the construction of the buildings.
Kiem 2050 is a residential project initiated by the Fonds Kirchberg and delivered through a Bouwteam partnership involving developers Immobel and Prefalux Home, architects Witry & Witry and SeARCH, engineering firms Betic and SGI Ingénierie, and landscape architects Areal Landscape Architecture. The structural works are being carried out by CBL, while the timber structure is being delivered by MSP Bois.
To symbolically mark the topping-out ceremony, a fir tree crafted from timber used in the construction was hoisted by crane to the top of one of the residences. In the future, this wooden tree may be reused in one of the residences' shared spaces during the festive season, further reflecting the circular economy principles that are a defining feature of the project.
"Beyond engineering, Kiem 2050 is also a human adventure, made possible by the craftsmanship and dedication of the workers who bring these buildings to life. Together, we are creating a model of sustainable urban development that responds to evolving lifestyles. By combining ecological transition with shared spaces, we are building a vibrant neighbourhood for its 500 future residents. This high-quality living environment will be seamlessly connected to public transport and supported by first-class cycling infrastructure," said Yuriko Backes, Minister for Mobility and Public Works.
In total, the development comprises 148 residential units, including 135 affordable Fonds Kirchberg homes, 1,320 m² of shared spaces, a co-living facility, and retail premises.
Muriel Sam, CEO of Immobel Luxembourg, highlighted "the importance of public-private partnerships such as the one established for Kiem 2050 in delivering affordable housing in Luxembourg."
The first apartments are expected to be handed over from late 2027, with the final phases scheduled for delivery by March 2028.
