Redevelopment of Boulevard Pierre Frieden
For ideal connection to the new districts
With the progressive arrival of some 10,000 new residents over the next ten years, the revision of part of the road network on the Kirchberg is needed today.
Accordingly, the Kirchberg Fund has started redevelopment of Boulevard Pierre Frieden and of the Circuit de la Foire-Boulevard Pierre Frieden junction. The road will be widened, to accommodate a separated cycle path on the south side and a bus lane in both directions. The junctions of Boulevard Pierre Frieden with Rue Abbé Jos Keup, Rue Matthias Tresch and Circuit de la Foire will become traffic-light controlled junctions. The underground networks (drains, drinking water, gas, telecommunications, electricity, etc.) will be renewed and their capacity boosted if necessary. A retaining wall will be built on the side to the Grünewald forest. This redevelopment sits within a mobility concept to be realised in several phases, encompassing the “Kuebebierg” and “Laangfur” districts.
The challenge is to link these districts to the public transport network, i.e. by ensuring optimum connection to the interchanges at the Serra roundabout and Rout Bréck/Pafendall, and to do so by the time the Lycée Michel Lucius on the “Kuebebierg” is opened in September 2027, as the travel plan for the secondary school is entirely based on the use of public transport, without needing to operate a school bus service. Boulevard Pierre Frieden will be redeveloped, with the option of adapting it to run trams along it to serve the new districts in the north of the plateau.
