Luxexpo interchange

A city entrance for multimodal mobility

With its impressive architecture and elegant canopy in a leaf form, the construction emerging behind the Luxexpo tram stop underlines the character of this new entrance to the city.

It includes a bus station, a public car park, shops and offices. Those travelling by RGTR and AVL buses can cross the piazza in front of the building quickly and easily, to connect with the Luxexpo tram stop. Planting, benches  and a drinking-water fountain make this a pleasant space to spend time in. From now, an “mBox” facility is being provided for cyclists who want to leave their bike in safe storage, before continuing their journey by another means of transport. Directly connected to the network of cycle paths, the piazza will also include a hire point for vel’OH! electric bikes.

The canopy which hangs over the tram platforms was designed by the landscape architect Peter Latz, earlier commissioned by the Kirchberg Fund to design the overall landscape plan in the 1990s. The steel structure, weighing 95 tonnes, is completed by glazing with a total weight of 25 tonnes, which is decorated in a design created by the Luxembourg designer Julie Conrad.

Two shop units - one operated by Maison Kaempff-Kohler, the other by fast food franchiser Subway - offer passers-by the opportunity to stock up on food or to enjoy drinks and fodd there. Public toilets, S-Bank cash dispenser and a PackUp point for parcel collections will also be included.

Sculptures realised by the Luxembourg artist Serge Ecker as part of “1% artistique” on public buildings bring a touch of creative inspiration to this crossing-point.

In May 2021, the Kirchberg Fund completed the construction of a five-floor car park above the bus station. It has space for up to 595 cars. It is available for short or long term parking, as well as for permit parking.

The office space will be occupied by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Defence.
