Redevelopment of the areas next to the Serra roundabout
For improved accessibility to the park and to the Grünewald district for pedestrians and cyclists
Following the redevelopment of the Serra roundabout as a turbo-roundabout, the arrival of the tram and the construction of the interchange, the areas adjacent to the roundabout will be progressively redeveloped to improve the quality of the public spaces.
The works are being undertaken on the south and east side of the Serra roundabout, on land near BGL BNP Paribas and land in the Parc Klosegrënnchen respectively. The works comprise:
- Realising civil engineering works
These works include creating two new pedestrian underpasses, linking the Grünewald district with Parc Klosegrënnchen. The first underpass will be by the roundabout, and the second as an extension of the southern pavement from Rue Edward Steichen. The existing development in the BGL BNP Paribas quadrant will be demolished, in favour of a new landscaped development. Boulevard Pierre Werner will be redeveloped in the section located between Rue Edward Steichen and the Serra roundabout. This work is intended to increase safety for cyclists and pedestrians. The current crossroads between Rue Edward Steichen and Boulevard Pierre Werner will be modified to give priority to traffic along the axis running from Boulevard Pierre Werner from the Serra roundabout towards Rue Edward Steichen. With the aim of improving the accessibility of Parc Klosegrënnchen, a new footpath will be built between the underground passage coming from the hospital and the existing paths in the park.
The plans also envisage the creation of a parking zone along Avenue John F. Kennedy, by the Luxtram maintenance depot.
- Planting, with works through to spring 2021
The works consist in planting trees by the roundabout, on the BGL BNP Paribas site and in Parc Klosegrënnchen.
